Are you guys liking this new doodled interview series, Drawn Out? I hope so, because you’re in for a treat! My guest today is one of my favorite illustrators from down under, Charles Santoso. Charles is a former concept artist/art director at digital studio Animal Logic in Sydney, Australia, and the artist behind the gorgeous picture books, Peanut Butter and Brains (Abrams), Ida Always and I Don’t Like Koala (both published by Atheneum), and his latest collaboration with author Sean Ferrell: The Snurtch.

The book is about Ruthie, a little girl whose bad day brings out a scribbly, burpy, rude “monster” called the “Snurtch”. We asked Charles (nickname Chao) about creating The Snurtch (his latest book from Simon & Schuster debuted this week in the United Kingdom) and what we can expect next from him. As always, all answers are doodled!
